Any out there who are post-hysterectomy and banded?

Recommended Posts

Almost 6 years ago, I had to undergo a total hysterectomy - tubes, ovaries, the works! Since then, my already slow metabolism has come to a crawl.

I wanted to ask if there are any of you out there who have been banded, post hysterectomy, and are losing well with the band? If so, how's it working for you? Comparitively, are there any weight loss differences?

I have such a hard time getting any diet to work -- was wondering how it's going for you all.

I had a hyster about 4 years ago. I was banded a year ago. I've lost just fine, although I've hit a plateau the last few months, but at least I'm not gaining!!! I'll be 50 this year, so my metabolism has slowed as well, AND I have a thyroid problem. I didn't think I would lose and I did.

I also had a total hysterectomy in 2001. I was banded March 24 2008. I have lost 50 pounds so far with about 25 more to go. I am 51 it has been slow going but it is worth it. I do not exercise because I have a pretty buzy job and by the time I get off work I am just to tired. And I hate to exercise. I know thats a bad thing but it's me. If I liked to exercise I wouldn't have needed the band. I know when you get older weight loss is harder but it can be done. Find what works for you running marathons was not my thing. But I now can only wear junior's size 11 and I haven't been this size since my 20's.

Thank you to both of you for posting and answering my question. Y'know how it is? I've tried so many things with no success and I know my metabolism has slowed wayyyy down....so I'm fearing failure even with the lapband. I know everyone is different. I just really hope and pray that "I" can use this as a tool and make it work!!! You're both an inspiration to me!

Nooshie,

I had a radical ( total) hysterectomy in 2002 and I was just banded on 2-3-09 and so far I have not seen any difference compared to others. I am on track losing. ( 15 lbs so far...Yeah!!!)

I had a hard time losing and actually gained over 60 lbs since the hysterectomy. Banding for a sure option, :thumbup:I am so excited about banding...so far no regrets!

Good luck!

I had a total hyst many years ago, am in my fifties and was banded last year. My weight loss though slower than many others is still a loss, and I am happy to take the loss! I am now at a normal BMI (first time in decades), and enjoying my life.

Nooshie:

I had a complete hysterectomy in 2004. Love not having a horrible period every month. I was banded in 2007. I was 48 when I got banded and it doesn't seem that my hormones or aging has effected my ability to lose weight with the band.

Best wishes to you.

Sue

I had a total hysterectomy at age 46 in March of 08 and then my lapband surgery in August of 08. I take 1 mg of estradiol a day so I don't know if this has any effect on my weight loss. I was losing good prior to my lapband surgery and also afterwards, but it seems to have slowed way down. I am hoping it is just temporary.

I had my hysterectomy Feb 2004 and my band Feb 2008. I have lost 160 lbs with the band. I had a total hysterectomy and have not taken any hormones. I am 39 years old and I have had great success. Good luck. Exercise, exercise, exercise!

My hysterectomy was about 10 years sgo. I hear you about not being able to lose weight. The band is changing my life. I was banded on 11/30/08. Today was my 2nd fill and i'm down thirty pounds. I am now at 5cc fill so i do expect the next couple of months will bring at least 20 +.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
