problems urinating after surgery????

Recommended Posts

I was banded yesterday and I had the same problem with urination. When I called my doctor he told me if it persisted into the late evening then I'd probably have to go to the ER and have them drain my bladder. He said that it's a rare side effect of the anesthetic that affects a small number of people. He recommended sitting in a warm bath and peeing while I was sitting down. He said he knew it sounded gross but that it works for a lot of people. I chose to just keep sitting on the throne picturing Water falls and such. Eventually I got a few drops and kept going back and finally got enough urine out to turn the water yellow. I am just now feeling like I'm able to urinate more like I used to be able to. However, I have not yet had a bowel movement...I hope that doesn't keep up...I hate the pain that can come with Constipation so i'm going to keep a close eye on it.

YES! It took me something like 12-15 hours to pee, I can't remember(I posted this somewhere on here before)Doc said stand in shower, didn't help..Said it is more common in men than woman but that anytime surgery is near the belly button area, it can happen..I have this almost everytime I have surgery..I have a bashful bladder and have had surgery on my bladder..

It took me 3 weeks for me to get back my 'pee trigger' I never needed to go but after 4 hours or so I would go pee just incase. After surgery ot took me about 6 hours to finally go other than the one time in the hospital.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
