Is this normal????????

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 1/28/09 and for the first few days I could feel some restriction when I ate, now I really dont feel any. Yes I get fuller quicker than if I had never had the surgery but I really don't feel a whole lot different. I bet you I could any just about anything I wanted to, not that I have but I really believe I could and I get hungry alot more than I expected. Is this normal and will things get better after I have had my first or second fill??

I also do not feel I am losing the way I thought I would the first couple weeks being that you really arent eating much.

Can the banded please help with some feed back?

You will get hungry and have little restriction.I did not feel real good restriction until my 4th fill.I did eat alot less but could eat anything until my 3rd fill, then you start having problems with certain foods.Good luck and it will get better I am 8 months ot and have lost 76 pounds so hang in there.

I was banded on 1/30/2009. I have gotten hungry but a little mushy food or a glass of milk fill me up pretty quickly. I had my post-op appointment today and I stopped at bread Co. to get a cup of creamy Soup. I got the smallest one and ate it and left. I was full the entire way home - maybe a little too full but I didn't feel sick. That was the first time EVER that I have been to that place without eating at least two pieces of bread and maybe on dessert and then taking a chocolate croissant home with me. I was on top of the world!

I felt no restriction after my surgery. None after the first or second fill either. It took three fills for me to feel any different... and boy that third fill has made a BIG difference!!! It is hard to keep eating what you are supposed to without restriction... but it will get better. "Eat what you should... not what you could" - that was my motto. Everyone is different and you will see that there really isn't any "normal". Good luck to you and hang in there!!! Becky

It is absolutely normal to feel hungry after surgery. I think most of us go through this stage. From 2 weeks to 6 weeks can be really difficult . . . but it only gets better from there once you start getting fills.

When I was first out of the hospital and got better there was no restriction, they put the band in with no fill. After 6 to 8 weeks they do the first fill, then every 6-8 weeks another one. I have to call when I notice that my restriction is not as good. I am going for my 4th fill this Wed.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
