3rd Fill at last restriction but got lots of questions

Recommended Posts

Hi! I had my op on 19th January 2008! I've lost 58lbs  mostly through dieting as I didn't have much restriction at all.

I eventually got restriction on my 3rd fill (now at 6 1/2 cc's in a 10 cc band), but I had to go back and take out 1/2 cc as it was completely too tight. I'm not sure about food now as I'm finding it very difficult to get most foods down. Is this normal? I'm okay with rice cakes, l/f crackers and Soup but cannot tolerate rice or bread. I suppose this is a good thing cos of carbs. But I want to eat solid foods like meat, vegetables. fruit and fish.

I was told that once you get to your restriction it's like starting over again. Is this correct? Help anyone...

Hey, congrats on the 58 pounds, I can't wait to hit that 50 mark! I didn't have much restriction until my 3rd fill either (I have 8cc's in a 9cc band) and now I have just enough. I know they say bread is one of the foods you're not supposed to have anyway so I rarely do but I can handle grilled cheese and I had half a dinner roll last night. Rice and Pasta is still ok but by the time I eat a few bites of whatever meat I have I never get to have much of them. I would go ahead and try regular meats and veggies just chew them like crazy! I just ate a few bites of turkey for lunch and no lie, I cut it into pieces the size of half a postage stamp and then chewed forever. My 4th bite was cold, lol. But remember, the band is made to work best with solid food so even though it might feel weird eating them now with the restriction, you'll be ok. Just avoid taking too many bites too fast too - that's how I always get stuck! I think I forget that 5 tiny bites can ball up into a decent sized lump of food! Good luck!

Hi. After my third fill, I finally have restriction. I can eat most foods, but do have some problems with bread, Pasta, rice, and dry meat (chicken, turkey). I can eat meat, fish, fruits, and vegetables... but... I have to take TINY bites, chew LOTS, and wait between bites. If you are following these rules and still having problems getting food down, I think you might be too tight still. Let your doctor know the problems you are having. If you need to get a tiny bit more taken out of your band, that is better than not being able to eat.... and you don't want to eat soft/mushy foods forever. Good luck to you!!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
