Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

What has changed for you?

Recommended Posts

Before the surgery, I posted in a thread about "What I won't miss..."

I was thinking it might be nice to start focusing on how we're progressing towards those goals and any others.

Anyone want to share how things have changed for them already?

I'll start...

  • I bought clothes from the regular section of JJill online and at Target. No more Lane Bryant!
  • I found my neck again, and am starting to see a collar bone!
  • I rode a bike - and without feeling sorry for the poor bike - and without singing "Fat Bottom Girls" as I rode
  • I can now look at myself in the mirror instead of putting on make-up without ever really focusing on how I looked because I hated it so much
  • I go the gym, and I don't feel intimidated - I feel strong!
  • I am off 1 of my 2 diabetes meds, and my heart meds have both been cut in half.

Hope someone else will want to share.:)

Hi Karen

Things that have changed for me:

- I can buy jeans in a regular store now as opposed to the 'fat girls store'

- I am off both diabetes medication and blood pressure medications I was on

- I am no longer fascinated with eating as I once was

This has most definitely been a life changing experience what has changed most for me is......

I no longer circle a parking lot until i can get the closest spot.

No more breaking out in a sweat just from unloading a grocery cart.

My back dosn't kill me after walking a mere few steps

I can fit in a restaurant booth! And look forward to dining out so that i can wear all my new cloths that ive purchased in a REGULAR store.

Most of all i now enjoy exotic family vacations again. For so many years i would not fly because of the humiliation of needing a seatbelt extender and no way was i ever going to put on a bathing suit in public.

**I can tuck my shirt in and wear a belt!

**I actually look forward to shopping for clothes size medium

**I look forward to renewing my drivers license and tell the attendant to change the weight on it

**I actually look forward to my nightly bike rides

**The plane seat feels comfortable

**Can't wait to wear a 2 piece bathing suit this summer

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
