Oh boy restriction! Need some advice! :)

Recommended Posts

Ok.. i just got my first fill 3 weeks ago since my surgery. Just 1cc which I feel I have great restriction, for now. I now cant eat bread, Pasta and rice with out it coming up. Learned the hard way. Sliming and puky equals yucky! Anyway one thing I have noticed is the discomfort I get for eatting foods that I should eat. Like protien. I eat anything from chicken to steak and it is so uncomfortable.. no matter how well I chew it.. that I just dont want to eat it anymore. It doesnt get stuck and it doesnt make me wanna puke it up, it just hurts going through the hole to my bigger stomach. Now what is the easist to eat, besides the soft stuff is, Soups, saleds and fruit. Which is all great for you, but can get boring after awhile. Now for the junk which is evil in my book LOL is chocolate and potato chips i can eat with no probs... I just have to use will power for that. Anyway, any advise to lower the discomfort of the meats? Any tricks anyone else experience this? Let me know thanks! :(

Cut the meat in small pieces. Like the size of a pencil eraser and chew, chew, chew! Stay away from slider foods such as chips Cookies etc. The bread, Pasta and rice a lot of banders have trouble with. I can eat bread but no longer like it. I can't eat rice unless it is just a little cooked in something. I can't sit down and eat lets say a bowl of rice. I can no longer do spagettii, but i can do wide noodles and maccaroni. I can't do the Ramon noodles. Every one's band is different. I used to be able to eat eggs till a few weeks ago. Now I can no longer do scrambled or omlets or fried. I can do boiled eggs fixed any ol way I want them. You will find out that our bands are like cats.....FINICKY!

I hope this helps you some. Good luck with your journey. Please keep us posted.:(

I used to love baked chicken. I can't eat it very well any more. 3 tiny bites and I'm done. BUT if I make like BBQ chicken with the sauce, it seems to moisten it a bit and helps a LOT. Same with steak. If I dunk the bit in some teriyaki or something, I do much better. Shrimp with cocktail sauce. Fish with tartar or bernaise sauce. Not a lot, but just enough so it's not a dry wad of yuck when I swallow it. It works for me.

Sauce is ALWAYS a good thing. Marinades, Ketchup... always makes it better. But some things, no matter how marinaded they are just don't work.

It seems I can eat anything - when I eat with someone else. Alone, I get stuck and sick on everything!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
