What makes/keeps you full?

Recommended Posts

I am 3 weeks out of surgery and 2 days into regular food (aka Lap Band Hell!!). I have gained 4 pounds (still down 25) and am extremely hungry all the time. I am a little scared of eating lots of regular food so I am sticking to mushies mostly - but maybe this food is just sliding through. My first fill is next Monday.

So my question for you is what foods make/keep you full?

Thanks for your suggestions!

I was told to make sure to eat foods that have Protein first. You will notice a difference when you get your fill.

Protein definitely keeps me full the longest. I can tell if I'm not eating enough protein during the day because I feel more hungry.

Nikki, since you're a little scared of solid food, have you tried Greek yogurt? It has something like 16 grams of Protein. Before my first fill, that was one thing I ate that seemed to stick. You may not want to add nuts yet, but adding All Bran Cereal to it, made it a little thicker, gave me some needed Fiber, and it kept me feeling full longer.

I also liked eggs during this period and my homemade chili. I use ground turkey and 4 or 5 kinds of Beans (including green beans) and made it pretty thick.

I too was told Protein first. Also, my Dr. told me no slider foods and no liquid cals. Good luck I'm just getting over Bandster Hell and its starting to sink in that this will work for me. The tool is starting to help I just have to stay on top of things and not fail.

Thanks for the good advice, somedays are getting a bit harder. I think some is mental, not used not eating most of the day ( bad habits are hard to break ) I dont get a first fill until first week of Mar. seems so far away. So when I read this post, I was so happy to read your suggestions!! Patti:thumbup:

Congrats on your band!!!

I was always told go w/ Protein.

I didn't hit my "sweet spot" untill my 5th fill. I haven't needed another since dec 22nd.

The HEAD HUNGER is always there! :-( HTH.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
