Gaining weight after banding and looking for a lap band meeting in Sacramento

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was banded on Jan. 17, lost 13 lbs, but have gained 3 to 4 lbs. Is this normal after eating regular food? I'm also looking for a laband support group in the Sacramento area. My doctor was Dr. Waldrep in Roseville.

Thanks

It happens. More people stall at that point than gain weight, but I'm including people with different surgery types in there. I think it's harder with a band because you are trying to lose without restriction at this point.

For support groups, try the hospital you had your surgery at. I know the hospital I go to for my surgeon's support group meetings also runs a lap-band only support group for anyone no matter who their surgeon is so maybe your hospital does too.

Personally I prefer my surgeon's support groups because he leads them and I like having the contact with him and also getting answers from the horse's mouth so to speak. Does Dr. Waldrep lead his support groups?

Hi Jeanne! The exact thing happend to me! At my first post surgial appt, I had lost 7 and 1/2 lbs. Was started on soft/mushy went back after another week and had gained 2 lbs! I couldn't understand how that could happen when I was eating next to nothing ( I had posted a question about it last week if you want to check it out.) It was suggested that I wasn't getting enough calories. I'm now on solids and go back to the dr next week. Guess I'll see what happens! Good luck to you!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
