Woo hoo,

My surgeon's office has submitted everything to BC/BS, and now I have about a week of waiting to find out if I am approved :). I know the office does not see me having any problems with approval, but it is still nerve racking.:paranoid

On a fun note, I went out this week and got some comfy jammie-type pants and tanks for post-op. My brother works at Old Navy which now carries what I affectionately call "Fat girl sizes" and I got a 25% discount off some stuff. :D

I am so hoping all goes well with insurance and I will have my band by the end of September! I am going to start a partial liquid diet next week to get myself ready for 4 weeks of liquids only. :phanvan

Good luck with your approval! You're almost there.

I'm impressed that you're starting partial liquids early - I'm counting the days until I can eat real food. :-)

Well, we shall see. I have to lose some weight before I will be scheduled (about 40lbs) so I figure this is a great way to jump start that process. Besides, I have to do 4 weeks of liquids only once I am scheduled. I am trying to make it less of a shock!

Hey Swirli

I have to ask, is it just here in the states that they want you to go on a liquid for weeks before surgery? And why? I mean is there a reason other than some weight loss? Like does it make the surgery safer or something?

Just Curious... and Good Luck!

I had to do 10 days of sugar free liquids, it is supposed to shrink the liver. I am not sure if it really does but my surgeon will cancel surgery if you have gained even a single pound, from first visit to surgery day. I lost 22 pounds on my liquid diet and I felt that I was more prepared for the liquids after surgery. After the first couple of days, you don't even feel hungry so the liquid diet is mostly will power to overcome those first few days. But since you are not really hungry anymore, there are no post-op hungar pains to deal with. ~Mandy

Well, that make alot of sense. But why doesn't Mexico Drs. require it? Or do they? I thought the liver might have something to do with it, but wasnt sure. So is it all dieting that shrinks the liver or just liquid diets?

Geez... so many questions.. so little time

My doctor in Houston didn't require any liquid diet prior to surgery. He did however suggest a low carb diet for a day or so prior to surgery. I guess I flunked that because as my last meal the night before, I had Mexican food and a trip to the baker for CHEESECAKE!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
