I'm curious how much of a scar do you have from this surgery if it was done laparoscopically. How big is it and where is is located? Did it diminish over time?

Most people have 4-5 scars I think but I have 6 from my surgery. One of them is about 2 inches long and the rest are about 1/2 inch. All of mine are visible, but a little better looking than they were.

My doctor was able to do my surgery with just two incisions b/c I was a lower-BMI patient. I put a photo of my scars up on my blog (in the "Mederma" post).

I've been using Mederma since whatever the date of that post was and, to be totally honest, it doesn't seem to be doing a whole lot. I don't remember to use it every day, but I do most days. My doctor suggested that I try Vitamin E to fade the scars, but I haven't bought any yet.

Thanks everyone and thanks for the photos Catherine. I hope my doc does the 2 incision. I don't know why the thought of the scars bother me. i was surprised to hear that some had 5 scars.

I had a previous laparoscopicsurgery, and the scars faded to white lines after about a year or a little less. They're barely noticeable.

Hey there -- after posting today, I decided to post some updated "scar" pics on my blog. I just put them up there.

Most doctors do the 5-incision surgery. They need a special set of tools to do it with just 2 scars, and it's only a viable option at this point for lower BMI patients. I was 225 & 5'6 at surgery -- I think that's a BMI of 37, but I might be remembering wrong.

I hope it works out for you so that you can do the 2-cut surgery. I can definitely recommend my doctor (Dr. Rumbaut in Monterrey). He was very good and is banded himself.

It's pretty much standard procedure to 5 incisions..there is one for the camera, one for the port (the biggest one), one that they slip the band through, one for the tubing and one for the other instruments that they need. However, I totally know how you feel. I scar really easily so I kinda freaked when I found out there were going to be five scars on my abdomen practically advertising my surgery. but i'm almost two weeks post op and they don't look too bad. good luck with your banding!

It's been bothering me lately also and I don't know why. Big ole belly and early death vs scars... but the scars have been on my mind. I've been told that Vitamin E really works well and if I remember correctly the peson who told me about it said to use it from the capsules to get best results.

Hi!

I was banded on Thursday and I have 5 openings. My hubby had bypass 2 yrs ago and you have to really look for the scars. Don't worry!

I had laparoscopic surgery several years ago, and the scars faded away to faint white lines that are barely noticeable in about a year's time.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
