Just introducing myself

Recommended Posts

My PCP has referred me to the Dr. for the Band. I am just starting out on this journey. I currently weigh approximately 290. My good weight is around 180. I have type 2 and am on blood pressure meds. This should be an interesting trip.

I have go for a consult with the DR, then with a nutritionist, and I am not sure what else, oh yeah attend a support group mtg.

For anyone who knows the answer - typically how long does the procedure take, and how long is the hospital stay?

Regards to all

Hal

My surgery took less than an hour, with no complications. I had surgery at 11:30 am and went home at 4:30 pm. I think some surgeons require an overnight stay, though. Good Luck!

Well, everyone's procedure varys. As an example, I was banded on 11/11/2008 and had some complications during surgery and in the hospital. So, I stayed in the hospital for 2.5 days. That is not the norm, and nor did I expect this to happen.

I am not sure how long it took the surgeon to complete my surgery. My spleen started to bleed during the prcoedure and they had to get the bleeding under control. But all is well now. I am jogging, losing weight, and have lots of energy.

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
