afraid of gaining weight during these first few months

Recommended Posts

:w00t:

i'm about 2 wks post op....now that i'm on mushies i'm afraid i'm going to gain weight.

i asked my doc if i'm supposed to worry about calories and she said to just eat about about 1 cup of food at a time. i make healthy choices...but i want to make sure i'm staying on track. i guess i feel like i don't have enough direction?

i've been eating about 4-5 times a day...i get in all my protein/water

i guess i need some suggestions? did people gain weight before getting restriction?

about how many calories should i strive for?

i would appreciate any suggestions....thank you so much!!!

This is probably not the answer you would like to hear. I would recommend sitting down with your doctor and telling them you need clarification. Your best source of information for you and only you is your doctor.

People who post on this forum, for the most part, are not in the medical profession and cannot advise you how to treat you for your LapBand. All we can do is share our personal experiences. So my suggestion is refer to your medical doctor to determine if you are on track. And to take what you read here with a grain of salt. Only you and your doctor really know what is best for you.

Good luck!

I'll give you my personal experience... I lost weight before my fill by carefully counting calories and sticking to about 1200 cals/day. I practiced small bites and Bandster portions and did well. Some people eat as usual and maintain or may gain a bit of weight, which can be expected. I just figured I'd stay ahead of the curve if I dieted till I got the restriction. It worked well for me.

My Dr told me that at this point they are not concerned with weightloss. Your job is just to follow their dietary orders and heal. Most people will lose weight in the first couple of weeks because they are only on fluids and mushies. Not to mention you are still swollen from the surgery (which is causing some restriction). When you start reintroducing solid food to your body, there may be weight gain. Dr Marsden said that generally there may be about a 6lb loss (anything over that is great) I am 4wks post op & have my 1st fill next Tuesday. I have lost approx 20lbs and it's been a struggle ...bcz I looooove food!! LOL!!

Good Luck,

Cheryl

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
