What time of day is more effective exercise...

Recommended Posts

I am doing much exercise, but I would like to know what time of day is more effective exercise in the morning, in the afternoon or at night....:w00t:

Whenever you're motivated to do it and where it fits in your schedule.

Its the same deal as the what exercise is best question. There's all sorts of theories but in reality the best exercise for you is the one you will actually do.

I find I will go for a run or do a circuit whenever I can fit it into my day - and I do plan ahead. But if I run in the afternoon and evening I am significantly faster for the same perceived effort. Running in the morning (as in first thing) is just not as enjoyable, I'm not energetic at that time of day.

but I would definitely do it every time that day if I had to.

That exercise on an empty stomach before Breakfast because you burn more fat is about as credible as the no carbs after 5pm myth. You dont burn the food sitting in your stomach anyway, and after a night's sleep, all of yesterday's food has been nicely turned into gylcogen and sitting in your muscles anyway. You'll STILL burn that first. That's why marathoners carbo load the day before a race.

I am not sure there is a better time of day that is more effective for exercise. That is the first I ever heard that mentioned.

I can say for me personally, I am so not a morning person. The first thing I do, besides beat the hell out of the alarm clock for having the audacity to wake me up at such an ungodly hour, is to get to the coffee pot. After, the java is flowing through my veins, I am scampering around the house getting ready for my commute to work.

By the end of the day and after my commute home, I am ready to blow off some stress and energy on my treadmill. So, during the work week, I exercise at night. On the weekends, I exercise day or evening, but never in the morning.

it's a timing & preference thing for me.

i'm and early bird & enjoy working out first thing to start my day.

I like taking a break in the late afternoon (I work out at work.) and I like doing it later in the evening and going home and collapsing.

On the weekends, I ride my bike after lunch because that's the best time of day where I am - it's warmed up from the night before, but the afternoon winds haven't picked up yet.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
