Restriction

Recommended Posts

Just curious what restriction feels like. My doc finally gave me a good amount on a fill and after a few days occasionally when I eat I get uncomfortable feeling in my chest. I kind of want to burp/vomit/both.

It varies on what causes it and day by day. Somedays I can eat everything fine and almost feel like I dont have a band - the others a small bite of food causes the feeling.

Is this restriction or did I get too used to not having to chew well enough/eat slow enough? I'm just curious how you know when you've achieved restriction.

Hi,

I have had 3 fills and am now at 7cc out of 10cc restriction.

I can tell you that there was a huge difference for me between 6cc and 7cc. At 6, I could still eat pretty much anything I wanted in small quantities, and if I chewed it really well.

At 7cc, I have pretty much gone to a liquid or soft diet. I know right away when I get something stuck because no air moves (you can't even force a small burp), and I start salivating alot. That is very different than feeling satisfied or full. It is quite uncomfortable. I think you are just feeling the fullness that you should feel after eating a small amount, which is exactly what you want.

Hope this helps!

Why are you back on liquids or soft foods? This means that you are too tight. You should be able to eat smaller portions of solids. Please mention that to your doctor.

We shouldn't be on liquids for the rest of our banded lives.

This question is so different for everyone. I have never had problems eating any food. My band is at max. Some days I can eat alot, others not so much. I guess you will find what is comfortable for you over time. I liked to be a little loose so I was able to eat a little more than was recommended because I exercised a lot and would feel fatigued if I didn't eat enough during the day. Again, you will find your comfort level, it just make take time. Also for some reason, during certain times of the month, like a week before my period I will be able to eat more. Afterwards my restriction goes back to what I consider normal. The band can be very finacky. Good Luck

You know, I wonder if it is a combination of both being too used to not having to chew/eat slow and restriction. I have been like you. I haven't had to chew well since banding. I think I got complacent about it. Now I think I have a good fill level, and I am having to relearn how to eat the bandster way. I was doing it religiously right after surgery, but when nothing happened forgetting once, I think my mind just said forget it. I guess we will have to take it slow. Good luck to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
