I have UnitedHealthcare and set to begin my 6 month pre-op classes this week. Has anyone had good or bad experences with United Healthcare approving the surgery, also any advice for the first class?

I had UHC when I had my surgery in March of 2008. They were painless, for me anyways! I didn't have a full 6 months of dieting history, but I had a long history of high weight, as well as Sleep Apnea and Type II diabetes. Document everything you can, UHC loves paperwork. Good luck! I have UHC as well and it was pretty easy for me- I had to show 5 years worth of obesity which was just showing I had gone to a doc once a year and what they charted about my weight- turned it all in and was approved- I also had to go through the sleep study for sleep app. and that was paid for as well.

Thanks for the reply. My concern is that I am a bordenline candidate. My BMI is 37 with some health concerns and issues but also a lot of family health history to think about and prevent. I know that in time, my BMI will hit the 40 mark and I hope my health doesn't get worse, but I know it will just based on my family.
