Struggling, Back Sliding, Whatever U Want 2 Call It

Recommended Posts

I'm here to make myself accountable.

I've been struggling for a couple of weeks but just this past week I've actually gained 3lbs.

I'm 4 1/2 months out and have lost 48lbs so I am very happy with that.

However, I see a bad habit forming again and thought I would come here first to get accountable.

I also stopped by the Kroger this morning on my way in to work to buy the Special K Protein Water to help me with the hunger. I'm going to try to do liquids for a couple of days to detox from the sugar.

As for my fills. I've had 3. I have 7 cc's in my Realize band. I fill good restriction for about 2 weeks and then after that, not much. (I go back February 10th)

Thanks for listening.

Sandra

Hi, Sandra!

I'm not as far in my journey as you are, but I have been seeing the same issue, that old habits want to creep up on me again. I'm wishing you lots of strength to be able to resist those urges and get your mind focused again. You are doing so great! Congratulations!

Let us know how the Special K Water is. Does it help take the edge off of things like they say?

Well you definitely got the name right. A Sunny disposition you have!

Thank you for the uplifting post. I appreciate it.

As for the Special K Water, I had this in the beginning on the recommendation of someone from this board and it really does help.

Hi Sandra, I was banded on 9-22-08 so we are near the same mark and I have only lost 35 since surgery, but 52 total with pre-op diet included. Is your 48 lbs all post op weight loss, or was some of it pre-op as well? Either way, I think you are doing great and we all have our moments whether it be a slow losing week, a plateau, or a few pounds gained. I gained a few over Christmas that took me a coupke of weeks to lose....too many sweets!!! I am overall a pretty slow loser I think compared to some others. What is the most you have lost in a month since you started getting fills? I think the most I lost was last month....9 lbs. I wish it was faster, but it is what it is. Just get back on track and you'll see a loss before you know it. Best of luck!!!

Special K also makes a Protein Cereal. I had trouble finding it. They put just that one kind all the way on the very top shelf of cereals. Its has 10 grams of protein per serving, low sugar and 5 grams of Fiber (smells like raisen bran somehow). I liked it. Has a sweet smell and taste even if its not sugar.

First of all, thanks for responding.

I've lost 48lbs since pre-op.(august 25th) I think I lost about 13 lbs from pre-op to my actual surgery date. I'll have to look back on my charts to be sure.

I think I'm getting concerned that I already have 7cc's in my band and that I'm able to eat so much.

I actually lost 7lbs from Thanksgiving to Christmas to my amazement but it's been bad since. Not satiety(is that a word, lol), wanting carbs and sweets.

Thanks again.

We need to do this together! I am in the same boat as you. Only I was banded a little over a year ago. Have lost about 70lbs but it is starting to creep back up. I know what it is. Its the fact that I know what I can get away with and that I still really like things that arent so good for you. We just really need to get back on track and I will help you if you will help me. Maybe we can make each other accountable.

I struggle with the same thing and also have 7 cc in my 10 cc band.

Carbs and sweets will always be easier to eat and restriction isn't really going to do a lot to help that. Have you considered doing a 5 day pouch test to help break the carb cycling that your body goes through (spikes your insulin when you eat carbs/sweets, which leads to too much insulin in your blood, which leads you to crave more carbs to give that insulin something to do, which spikes your insulin even more and round and round it goes).

I wish you luck. Dropping back to the five day pouch test helped break my carb cravings and I am back to losing now.

Hello Fellow September Samurai!

It is so funny that I would come across your post and you are a fellow S.S! I too, am having a hard time and feel myself backsliding as well. I actually went in for a fill today and talked with the nurse about this b/c I don't want to go down. I told her I feel like the "honeymoon" is over and she said it was and that the hard work now has to start. She told me today to think about why I had surgery in the first place. She told me to think about my goals (specific goals) and to think about it and not forget the reasons we had surgery. I know we can do it! We can! Hang in there!

I have a 10cc band with 5cc in it and my fills give me restriction for about 2-weeks too.

My doctor takes the old fill out to make sure nothing is being lost. But I would like to hit the sweet spot. I was just banded in November.

Hi Speck,

Wow! 48 pounds off! that is awesome. I need to lose the same amount you do and I also had surgery on the same day. I had to have a port replacement so that put me back a few weeks. I have 2cc's in my 9cc band and just gained 5 pounds of my 30 pounds I lost. WAHH!! I see the doctor on Monday and decided not to go on the liquid diet until after the fill. You are doing great! It might be Water gain but go ahead and do the 5 day pouch test just to get the head start.

Thanks for the support.

Still struggling and can't get in to see the dr. until Feb. 10th.

Hanging in there and hoping for the best. I don't like that feeling of thinking of food all the time. (especially sweets)

What happened? lol

I'm right there with you all. I was banded 10/28/08 and have 5cc in a 10cc band after my 3rd fill. I had my 3rd fill on Monday and I think he missed as I really don't fill any more restricted than I did on Sunday. I'm back to journaling my food so I can be accountable for calories. I miss that just out of surgery feeling where I just was never hungry.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
