Any help for inflammatory meds? PLEASE HELP!

Recommended Posts

Thank you for reading my post, I have been banded for over a year and a half, I love my lap band, there is a lot of work required, you still have to eat right and exercise. I am having a lot of swelling on my knee, I know I will need arthroscopic surgery one day to fix the cartlige tear, had mri in 1991, just never had insurance. I have always been able to ice it and the swelling would go away, I know I can't take the nsaids, and tylenol liquid does not seem to help. I have been playing full court basketball and doing the preqor machine at least 3-5 time a week. I'm 35 now and even with the band my metabolism is still at a snails pace. Since I had my band I have maintained a 75lbs loss which puts me at 250lbs, i can still lose another 30-50lbs, but I am very comfortable at my weight, I have been taken off my blood pressure meds, so I am very happy. I was hoping if anybody has some suggestions on what I can take for the swelling that will bhe safe with my band- Thankyou and GO GATORS 2008 National Champs!!

My understanding is that they used to say that bandsters can't take NSAIDs because they thought it caused erosion, but then they figured out it didn't and you should be able to take them.

But talk to your surgeon and your PCP about what else is out there.

NSAIDS (like aspirin) can cause erosion. My doc, however, has said that if I only take them occasionally and am "careful" about it(ample Water, take it when it won't just "sit" in the pouch, etc) that they are ok.

SO my advice to you is to check with your banding surgeon. He should be able to give you some tips on how and when to take NSAIDS safely.

Like the others, my surgeon said it's completely fine for me to take ibuprofen. That is what helps me the most with my back pain.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
