For those of you at goal....how do you stop losing when the time comes?

Recommended Posts

This is a very premature question for me as I still have at least 40-50 pounds to lose, but I can't wrap my head around how you finally stop losing when you get to your goal. My surgeon hasn't answered that question for me yet (hardly answers any questions at all to be honest), so I'm very curious as to how it all happens. Any help would be appreciated!!

Eat more and/or get a slight unfill.

I upped my calories but kept loosing so I went in for an adjustment...just a tad.

The band is still my backup if I overeat, but I'm maintaining between 136 and 140 and have been for almost a year.

My weight loss petered out and just stopped eventually so I called that goal!

There's a couple of ways to look at it for me. My original goal was 79kg which was a normal BMI of 25. I went past that. In truth, I always knew i considered that still fat for me becuase it was a long held weight, right through my 20's and i was never happy there. So I didnt worry when I went past.

But I always wanted to be about 65kg. So am I past goal or not at goal yet? Lol. This is just where I stopped. I didnt have to unfill or anything, but I do eat a bit more than I did, not a lot more though. And of course, I still exercise.

My doc wants me to come in for a small unfill, about every 4 or so weeks, until my weight levels off. I will always be careful of the amount of food I eat at one sitting, though. I dont want to stretch out my pouch (again)

if i want to stay under 130lbs; i have to exercise - which will afford me the ability to pretty much eat what i want.

if i'm not exercising - i have to watch the calories a bit more.

i just had a small unfill last wk & will hold steady for a while to see if it's a good place for maintenance.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
