Help! I dont know whats going on!

Recommended Posts

Hello,

i was recently banded on Jan 5th, about 13 days ago

and i just recently started solid foods but for about 3 or 4 days now something doesnt feel right. Its so hard to explain, but it feels like a gas bubble behind my pouch or like when you swallow something and it hurts going into your stomach, kind of like a hiccup or burp but it stays where my pouch is. like its a weird pressure and i dont know if its normal or if i should call my doc.

anyone else have this happen? Ive tried gasx strips, walking, warm tea, heating pad but it doesnt seem to be helping. it sometimes makes me loose my breath. i keep hoping it stops but im worried.. and ive tried just doing liquids but it doesnt help. i only had a drinkable yougurt and a fruit cup that i chewed realllly well and Water today and its still happening like every 30mins or so.

if anyone can help id be much in debt.

thanks!

Allie,

I was banded on the 6th and I have not started mushy food yet, but whenever I burp or hiccup I get this really bad pain in my chest.

Please keep us informed if you talk to your doctor or anyone and let us know if it is normal to expect that.

Good Luck!

I had something similar that happened early on. Almost daily. Till I figured out I was not taking smal enough bites and chewing long enough. I chalked mine up to "restriction". If I did not pay attention when I was eating, and maybe talking at the same time, it would happen. So now I know if I have this feeling, I just stop eating then and give a few minutes, set my timer for 30 minutes and slow down. Sometimes I would even wait till my family finished eating and return to the table. We live and learn. It almost feels like it it getting stuck at the top of my throat. I think it is actually when the food touches the opening the wrong way. My suggestions is to slow down and chew till it becomes a liquid form. measure out your food, even while you are eating mushies. I am now 1 year out and loving my band. down from a 16/18 to a 6/8. 15 lbss from goal.. Good luck, learn how to use your band. it will work everyday for you and you only.!!:)

I agree, chew, chew, chew till it hurts LOL. Also if that does not work just go back to mushies for a few days and rest the pouch. It's common when you first start eating before you train yourself to take smaller bites and chew a lot.

Sounds like food is lodged trying to pass though. That's the feeling I get when I swallow too much or don't chew enough.

But...just to be safe, call your doctor ASAP.

Sounds like its the size of your bites or how fast you are eating. I still have that problem everynow and then. Just make sure that you take your time and also when chewing you might want to count to 100 in your head to make sure you chew long enough.

Hi Jeremy,

I also had my surgery with Dr. Thomas Brown. I was very happy with the hospital and the whole surgery in general. Was hoping maybe I could use you as a "sounding board" as I begin my new "post banding" life.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
