Getting Banded Monday, need some encouragement!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Well I've begun my pre-op diet which I can now understand why they call it the "hardest part":cursing:

Anyway, somehow, I found a link to Youtube showing a lot of "failed" lap band patients that opted for the Mini Gastric Bypass. Many of them talk of fatigue, aches and constant vomitting. I have been nothing but super excited about this change, and have been getting ready for weeks, now this:crying: Please tell me these are rare occurences. And anyone who has been banded for several years, any relation to these symptoms? Thanks for any input!:yikes:

I viewed those videos too before I was banded. Plus, I saw the ones that show the actual surgeries. I wanted see the good and bad. I wanted to make a well informed decision.

I reviewed medical journal literature as well and I discussed this literature with my doctor. I actually copied all the articles and took them to the dcotor's office. I cannot recall the exact rates of complication in the journals (I don't have them with me at this moment), but it was not significant enough to warrant my withdrawal from having the surgery.

Yes, complications do occur. And yes they are scary, but we need to be aware of the risks. Afterall, it is surgery.

Try and find journal articles that talk about the risk stats associated to bariatric surgery. I was able to Google some of the reports, but the majority of the reports I found at the univsersity I attend.

I did have a minor complication and stayed in the hospital for 2.5 days, but I am okay. I am healthy, losing weight, have more energy, and would do it all over again.

Good luck with your decision.

I have only been banded for 8 days n it is the best thing that i have ever done for myself. I mean the first 3 days r hard but ur fine after that. I think it is few people with issues from the lapband n it is people who dont follow what ur told to do. The only reson a person might vomit is cause they did not chew there food till its mussey in there mouth or they over ate. So it is all how u go about ur lapband follow the rules n u will be fine. Best of luck to u!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
