Hi!

I have my initial consultation scheduled on 1/29/09 with Dr. Veninga in Carrollton, Texas. I have been jumping through hoops to get all this done! I have my nutritionist appt scheduled for Monday and my psychologist appt scheduled for Thursday of this week! So, I am finally getting the ball rolling. My primary care doctor has been dragging his feet getting my records to the Dr. Veninga. It's frustrating, I had no idea how much would be involved. But one thing is sure, it gives you time to make sure that this is what you want to do. And I am sure that is why they do that! I am really excited about the prospects of this lap-band. The biggest question I have is...would you do this over if you had the chance? Also, what are the long-term effects of being banded? I have dieted for 15+ years and are ready for a change in my life. I have 70-80 lbs. to lose. Wish me luck!

Welcome to LapBandTalk!

I think you will get more response from long-timers if you post in the General Lap-Band Support section. There aren't a lot of long-timers who hang out in the "Intros" section.

Shelley,

I am new too. My surgery is scheduled for Jan 26th. I start my pre-op diet on Monday, Jan 20th. This weekend is my shopping for pre-op diet and post-op diet and things need for post-op. I am really excited about my lap-band surgery. I too am looking forward to getting my life on track and becoming healthy again. I have great support from my family.

I do not know how to work anything on this site yet.

We'll learn together! Take care!

Hi,

I wish you luck this week on the pre-op diet. I have to say of all the things I know about the surgery and everything to do with it, I think the pre-op diet scares me the most! I have never been on a liquid diet before and I hope it goes well. Just hang in there and keep remembering why you are doing it! I will be here cheering you on! Yes, I am still learning this site too, but the people are really helpful and supporative here!

Best of luck and email me to let me know how you are doing. Tntreg2@aol.com

Best wishes!

Shelley

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
