Confused!! Not sure if I'm doing things right?!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.

I was just banded on Monday Jan 12th and I have been following the diet and drinking only sugar free liquids (crystal light, propel, and Protein water) and broth but I don't know if I am identifying when I get full. It seems like I haven't gotten full but maybe once since the surgery. It's like I don't have a band sometimes, in my opinion, but I know its there. Still, I'm not sure what to think, I can drink and drink and I don't feel very different. Has anyone experienced this? Is it normal? I also haven't felt the least bit nauseous since the surgery and I was under the impression that I would barely be able to ingest a few ounces of liquid at a time or I would feel like I was going to be sick?! I also have been kinda hungry for food... whats going on?

That's perfectly normal. I followed my dietician's advice of 2 weeks of liquid. I was able to drink about 3/4 of a cup of clear Soup sipped slowly during this time. I then went onto pureed foods. I felt less hungry once I was actually eating real food. Stick with what guidelines you've been given and it does get easier - good luck

I was never sick or nauseous. I really could not tell I had a band until I got a few fills. Just keep sipping and follow your doctor's orders for your post op diet.

It will get easier. You can read the board and do a search up on the right side of the board . Search for

bandster hell.

Hi apple: It sounds like your healing normally. Thank goodness you are getting all your liquids in. Hunger is to be expected, so this is reallt the challenging time for you. Follow your doctor's instructions and you will be okay.

Congrats on your surgery. It is the perfect way to start the New Year off.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
