Hello! I'm new to the site and scheduled for lap band on Jan 29th in Guatemala. I live in LA but am visiting Central America for a while and here I disovered Angels Abroad, a Medical Tourism firm and boy were they ever angels. I never thought this type of surgery possible due to the cost, but in Guatemala its 1/2 the cost than it is in the US. My doctor is American board certified and trained in the US for several years.

I am anxious for my new life to start and mentally preparing for it now as I just started this process 2 weeks ago and am already going under the knive in 2 weeks. I see for many it has taken months. I feel blessed to have this amazing opportunity. In reality my weight loss journey started over 20 years ago. I am saying goodbye to the old life, old ways and starting anew. In some ways I mourn the loss of the misery which provided deceptive comfort for so many years.

I look forward to hearing your story and sharing with you. We may be just one in 300,000, but it's happening to me. And it's happening to you.

I'm truly happy for you but...what are you going to do for fills etc? One thing I learned AFTER getting the band is that the after care (fills, someone to call if you have an issue, etc etc) is VITAL....and many many surgeons will NOT touch you if you were someone else's patient, regardless of where your surgery was performed (next door or 1/2 a world away). Make SURE you have someplace to get fills etc BEFORE you get the surgery.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I'm told they will hook me up with a doctor in the states for fills. I will be sure to inquire further about that and even get a name & call before surgery.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
