Medication Question ???

Recommended Posts

Got another one for ya's

When you have the band, how do you take pills? some of them are gigantic horse pills like the ones I got last night for my back (pain killers).

I ask b/c it says right on the paperwork that you get with the meds NOT to crush b/c its timed released.

Thank you !!

You will need to get into the habbit of reminding your docs of your pill issues. If I forget while i'm at the docs I always check the size of the pills before I leave the pharmacy. If it is too big then talk to your pharmasist to see if they can help. They can always call the doc and get the precritpion changed.

When I first had my band and was still in the liquid stage, I got the flu and needed meds. It was on the weekend and I went to an urgent care center that did not know me. I told the doctor and nurse that I needed liquid meds because of recent banding surgery. They wrote the scripts and my husband had them filled at my regular pharmacy. Imagine my surprise when he came home with 4 huge bottles of liquid! Each dose was 3 oz! The pharmacy had to dispense the childrens liquid and the amount I needed as an adult was large......it would have taken me forever to consume that much back then. Now I can laugh about it but then I was very annoyed. I called my regular dr on Monday and got the correct medication in an adult crushable that was fine.

There is humor in everything!

how do you know if tablets are too big, it might sound a stupid question but until you take them and they either get stuck or go down how would you know ? I do realise that it may vary from person to person, but wondered if there was a general guide we could go by.

hey Lady Gaynor, :)

The general rule for pills is that they need to be smaller than a pencil errasers. (or for our UK friends such as yourself, smaller than a rubber.) (you DO know what Americans call "rubbers" right? ...{laughing}

I find that it is easier for my meds if I take them with milk as opposed to Water. It also adds a buffer incase the pills are going to be ... difficult

Thanks Vinesqueen,

I knew you'd be able to answer that for me. And yes I am aware what rubbers are in the States !!!

Thanks again

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
