anxiety about this weird thing in your body anyone?

Recommended Posts

I kinda thought the same thing yesterday. I was in so much pain and having a slight anxiety attack that I was thinking..."WTH did you do to yourself". I was wishing I had stayed at the hospital longer and was so unsure about everything.

My other main concern is just hoping it will last a lifetime...I don't want to go through this again thats for sure :sneaky:

I often forget I have this band inside me and I never feel my port unless I intentionally press down to feel it.

However...right after I had surgery, I was emailing everyone I know telling them I wished I didn't do the procedure. I was in so much pain I was delusional. Once that subsided, I started feeling better and better!

Now, I feel like a million bucks!

I too, worry about it lasting. I am terrified of having to live without my band (if something were to happen to it)!!

I don't think about it. The only time I know it's there is when I have a fill and I have restriction.

I feel really good UNTIL I start reading about other peoples complications. Then the hipocondriac (sp?) Comes out in me, whatever I read I have. Which is bad vibe for healing (I'm only 2 1/2 weeks out). I try to stay away from those posts but I'll click on them in recent posts. Keep thinking positive!!!!

I understand how you feel, I'm a few weeks ahead of you so things are calming down. I'm just a little weird about feeling the port. After the swelling goes down and the incision heals you can definitely feel it. It might be the weirdest in 80 days when I am laying by the pool on the cruise ship. Its below 0 and snowing today, so I'll get use to it. I'll probably think people are looking at my incisions. Hopefully most of my stomach hair will have grown back by then.

I also felt weird right before and a week or so after. Now, because it is like it isn't even there, it doesn't bother me.

Hey I just wanted to add my 2 cents. I was banded on August 27, 2008. I had anxiety in the hospital waiting to go in where I thought I would just get up and leave. I decided to stay and let the Docs and God and myself succeed!!! I have lost 68 lbs so far and feel really great. i went from a size bigger than a 26 they were tight to a 18-20 now. I love this band whom I so lovingly named "Miss Molly" my alter ego. I had support of my family, friends, fellow banders here on this website and of course my docs to help me sort through my feelings of anxiety. I had a prescription for Xanax filled and took 2 halves and haven't taken anything since the last time which was months ago. I realized that this band is a tool just like a pace maker and it will help me live a healthier happier life. My family loves me and wants me to be around along time.

SO, Anxiety, yes we all have it, some can deal with it and get over it and some need help. I always thought I could handle it, but I really needed help the first few weeks after surgery to mentally feel stronger. Now I feel great mentally and physically. you will too. Keep your head up and remember you can do this!!! You deserve it!!

All the best, Always,

Andrea

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
