I just wanted to ask if anyone had any complications from lifting weights after surgery? I am 7 weeks post op and have lost 40 pounds so far, but I know to keep losing I need to exercise more. I have been doing a few light weights...ab machines...leg press, etc....nothing too heavy along with aerobic activity.

I did speak with a nurse at my doctor's office this morning and she stated that everything should be fine; however, I am self pay and certainly cannot afford any complications.

I would appreciate any help! Thank you!

My doctor said it was okay for me to start using weights and i was only two weeks post op. She told me to listen to my body and i had no problems. I started lifting at the weight i did pre surgery. Good luck

I had a little port pain after doing abdominals 4 weeks after surgery. My doctor just told me to take it easy another week or two and then I should be fine. I have no problems now.

At 7 weeks out you should be just fine as long as you are using appropriate lifting technique and are not overdoing it. Just listen to your body. Start easy and if you are not sore the next day or so then you know you can pick up a little more. If you are careful and listen to how you feel, it is not likely that you will injure yourself.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
