February '09 bandsters?

Recommended Posts

Hi Congrats to all of those who have been banded so far and good luck to all of you are to be banded soon. My date is Feb. 18. 3 more days. I have been on liquids since yesterday and start Clear Liquids till Tuesday. I am really having a problem getting the Protein Shakes down. It's just not happening for me. I am going to try some Protein Jello tomorrow and see if I can tolerate that. I will make a call to the clinic to see if there are any other alternatives to the shakes. I am glad I found this forum and hope to visit alot. I am getting scared silly though.

Hi K-Jan,

i feel your pain. I was banded on 2/4/09 and was having a hard time getting my shakes down too. i just dont like the protien drinks. However, i got some great ideas from other bandsters. not sure if it will work for you now, but will be greta for post op..first i have been mixing my vanilla Protein mix with frozen strawberries and a banana..it tastes great love that and it is the only way i can amd will drink the prtoen drink. i was also told to mix the orange falvored cystal light in it for a creamsicle flavor. i had o try differnet hings as i was dying over here borderline getting depressed. well let me know those r some starter ideas hope u try them and love them..good uck. keep me posted on ur progress!!!

K-Jan, I got tired of the shakes and now I am happy with the Protein Powder (unflavored) mixed in with instant Breakfast. They taste great and you don't even taste the Protein powder. I was banded on the 10th so I have been on these since Thursday the 12th. I just was not getting all the protein in that they suggest so the unflavored can be added to just about anything, even Water. I put it in cream Soup this afternoon and you would never know it was there. I got it at GNC but I am sure other places sell it too. The banana and the chocolate were recommended to me by a man who has lost a ton of weight, but I have not tried those yet. By the way, it is normal to be nervous. You will be ok. Good luck!

Hi y'all! I'm scheduled to be banded this coming Friday and I'm pretty excited about it. I guess some days I'm really ready and then some days I'm not sure if I'm making the right choice. I've lost 53lbs since September, doing a pre-op diet. And when everyone asks me what I've done differently, all I can say is I've been eating well and exercising non-stop. But then it makes me wonder if I should be having the surgery since I've lost weight without it. But I've done too much and gone too far now to stop! Anyways I sometimes feel like I'm totally alone in this, but then I come here and see that there are so many of us going through this and it makes me feel a little better. Thanks guys.

Hey all!

I was banded on the 11th and the doctors said I did awesome! I had a few days of soreness, but that's almost entirely gone now and I feel pretty good! No hunger to speak of at all really- which is weird. I thought after the post-op diet I would come out of the surgery ravenous but I'm actually not really hungry at all...the Protein Shakes fill me up and I usually have some Soup and I'm good to go.

Good luck to all of those who have yet to be banded!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
