How soon can someone expect to see some weight changes? I am now 2 days post-op and actually weigh more today then I did the day of my surgery. Can it be the gas and swelling? Also... how long did it take until you went number 2.... I took ducolax today in the morning and still nothing........

Hello Irochka:

As far as BM, mine were very irregular for a month after surgery. I didn't have a normal BM until 8-days post-op.

As far as weight loss after surgery, everyone is different. It really is impossible to compare and contrast your progress with other people's progress.

You are so newly banded that you are swollen, have gas, and are probably sore. Right now your body is in recovery mode. The weight loss will happen, but it does take time.

I lost 10 pounds during the pre-op diet and 20 pounds post op. I really cannot recall in what time frame I lost the 20-pounds post op, other than at each doctor visit my weigh ins show weight loss. More importantly for me, because I exercise like crazy, the inches are melting off. I have lost 3 pant sizes, since the surgery and I am ready to drop one more pant size.

I had a 3cc fill at surgery and a 1.5 cc fill on December 10. I lost .5cc between the surgery and the December 10 appointment, so now I have 4cc in a 10cc band. My next fill is January 14.

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
