Re-Banded

Recommended Posts

Anythoughts on getting rebanded after a slippage? I had my band removed in 06/08 after losing too much weight, slippage was determined, not schockingly, the weight is coming back, and i am beside my self. Dont know if the insurance will pay though.......

Did you have it removed because it slipped? OR did you have it removed and then think it slipped? If it was giving you problems, didn't you plan to just have it replaced? I'd think that if you were having difficulty and a surgeon decided you needed it removed, time to heal, then replaced, ins would pay. But if you wanted it removed and then changed your mind (slippage or no) that's a different story.

I'd think that it couldn't hurt to get in touch with your surgeon and ask.

yes i actually have an appointment on 01/30, so i am looking forward to it. Thanks for the reply! I am not sure how he listed my removal, yes i wanted it but it was because the band slipped, we never really discussed rebanding because i was so sick.

What does it feel like when your band has slipped? Can you feel it or do you just get sick? What might cause it to slip in the first place?

My slippage was determined after it was removed, i guess they could tell by the placement of it. I was SOOOOO sick for like 4 months prior to removal, I lost almost 40 lbs in that time and not in a good way, I was really dehydrated and losing hair, i looked like a coke whore to be frank! I have gained back almost 60 pounds, I am totally devastated and i am getting married in may, so i want it back in and i want it back for life, i am hoping a smaller band will help, I lost all of my weight pretty quick, the last from being ill, but i need help there is no doubt, i need to lose about 40lbs. and i am doing everything i can on my own.

Froggy, did you try a complete unfill first, or did you just want the band removed? (Just curious...trying to learn and more info is better. You did what was right for you so I hope I don't sound funny)

Froggy-

I too had a slip, I am scheduled on 1/28 to go in and have it fixed. My Dr. said that there was no need to take it out and wait, she's just going to go in and either reposition it or replace it at that time. I have not been really sick, just unable to eat good foods. I used to be able to have a salad or a cup of Soup, now I can not tolerate either as they get stuck or come back up on me. I have really bad reflux at night, I can't eat anything for a few hours before bed because if I do, I'm up all night.

My insurance is covering the repair of the band without question. My Dr. said that because it was considered a complication from surgery the insurance would cover it. If you had a slip and it was taken off to give you time to hear your Insurance company should cover it.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and best of luck to you with getting your band replaced.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
