Hello,

I am scheduled to have the lap-band procedure on Jan. 9, 2009. I am very excited and nervous at the same time. I am ready to make changes in my lifestyle to ensure my sucess.

I would like to know if there is anything that I will not be able to do (activities, myths, ect) after I have my lap-band. I have heard from someone that I will not be able to drink carbonated beverages, or drink from a straw is this true?

Thank you,

Semone:thumbup:

Results vary among us banded. Some of us can drink carbonated beverages, through straws, etc. and some of us cannot. My doctor recommends against carbonation, so I don't drink 'em. I can use a straw, though

I will say that, for me at least, the positives outweigh the negatives by roughly 1000000:1. I would absolutely do it again tomorrow. Some do not feel the same way.

The thing that strikes me is......has your doctor not covered any of this with you? This is kind of a basic question to be asking with your surgery coming up in like 4 days. I'm not being critical, but having a band (or having any weightloss surgery) is a huge decision. Good luck.

You need to ask this of your surgeon and nutritionist. With all respect (I truly don't mean to be mean!) you should already know what, if anything, you are giving up before you get the band placed.

good luck semone with the surgery, only you will know what will be right for you to eat & drink, but even if you have to give the carbonates up isnt it worth it?, just look at what results you can achieve, im sure if you have been on a diet before you gave alot more up to try & lose the weight?, Talk to your nutrition they will help you out more

Good luck with your surgery and post op! My surgeon gave me a list of things to avoid after surgery and carbonation and straws are on the list. Can you call your surgeon's office to see if they have a booklet or list with this information?

I am right behind you with surgery on 1/12. Please keep us posted on how things go!

Hi Everyone,

I was banded on Jan. 9. I am doing well and recooperating at home. Today I was up doing all my regular chores in my home like usual. I had very minimal pain. I am schedules to go back to work on Monday. I am very excited and motivated to lose weight:thumbup:.

I am currently on a CLEAR liquid diet for another week and I will be able to consume a FULL liquid diet for another 2 weeks. Then I can progress to a soft high Protein diet (which I'm looking foward to).

As of my surgery date I weighed 217lbs. My goal wieght is 130. I am eager to meet fellow banders.

Well, my doctor does not recommend straws, gum, coffee, or carbonated drinks. I agreed to everything but coffee. Sorry, but I will not give it up and she knows I won't give it up.

I'm doing well today, last night was the first night not taking any pain meds - now I don't know what to do with the two enormous bottles of Oxycotin they prescribed me -if I was a different person....;) I actually slept on my side a little last night.

Only thing, I had a little emotional breakdown when my family was having hotdogs and french fries for dinner and I was having my mixture of Tomato Soup and beef broth for the third time. I can not wait for purereed food

Hi again,

I know what your going through with food. I feel the same way. I cooked a spiral ham, Scolloped potatoes and green Beans for my families dinner last night (It sure smelled good) I had a cup of chicken broth. The way I look at it is that ... It will be so worth it pretty soon! I need to break the bad eating habits that I formed over the years and then I would like to institute a "new" way of eating in our household. I would like to use more lean cuts of meats and less processed carbohydrates in my families daily meals. I will have to do this slowly by introducing more healthful, tasty meals. I beleive my husband will be supportive in these changes to make us a more healthy family.

Sounds like you are doing pretty good:tongue:, happy for you! My husband keeps asking what will you eat when we eat regular food. I smile, and say "it will be ok, less for me, will be good". Maybe the whole family will come on board, with healthier eating.

Keep us posted on your success! I am ready for my band, Jan. 21st:tongue2:

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
