Recently Banded and Can't Stop Vomiting . . .

Recommended Posts

Hello all. Was just banded on Friday. Can't keep a single thing down. Water comes up shortly after even small sip. Am still making urine, so the doctors think that some of the water is being absorbed in my stomach, but they are speculating that I may need to have some of the Fluid taken off of the band today.

Anyone else experience this? I'm tired of throwing up and don't want to have slippage or band erosion from wretching so hard.

Help?

I'm so sorry you are going through this! I didn't experience this -- My surgery was in October and I haven't puked at all. I hope they can give you relief at the Dr. office today!

So sorry to hear this. I hope the Dr.s can figure out what is going on soon and fix it. Please keep us posted, and know you are in my thoughts.

Hearing stories like this make me happy that my surgeon doesn't fill during surgery. I wanted it when I was banded, but he said he never did it. It will take you a little longer to get to a losing place now, but at least you will be able to keep down liquids. Good luck!

I am so sorry this is happening to you. It sounds miserable. I had 3 cc left in my band at surgery and have yet to ever vomit, get stuck or PB. Let us know what's wrong and how it goes.

I'm one of those whose surgeon doesn't put fill in until healed. thank goodness! He said "there's some primer in there, it's negligible" when I asked him. Please stay on top of it; you can get dehydrated really fast! I hope it resolves soon! That's just wrong!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
