Good morning, all!

I am writing at 8 days post-op and happy to report that I am feeling very well. I feel nearly normal already and am getting lots of exercise which is helping a lot.

I hope that all of you who are thinking about the surgery will seriously consider it. I think it will be very positive for you. It sure has been for me!

Take care out there!

Jody

Thanks for your post! It is great to hear that those who are just out of surgery are doing well! What excercise are you doing?

How were the first days immediately following surgery? Were you sleeping a lot, or were you up but moving slowly? I am having surgery next Monday and am trying to imagine what my week after surgery will be like.

WorkingMom:

I am just doing a lot of walking so far. I was very active prior to surgery so not feeling really super the first few days was a bummer. I'm up to just over 2 miles on the treadmill on hillclimb mode but have cut back on the pre-op intensity of the incline. I really feel best when I am exercising.....it helps the gas pains that I get by helping me to burp. :tt1:) Looking forward to climbing back in the pool next Monday.....the doc has given me her blessing at the two week point. The other thing I am totally craving for exercise is weight lifting--4.5 weeks left for that and counting.

I was pretty groggy for the first 2 days post-op due to the pain meds and anesthetic, I'm sure. I was able to completely be off pain medication by day 4.

The other MAJOR bonus for me that has kept me encouraged is the weight that has already come off. As of day 7 I was down 10 lbs! Yippee!

Take care, WorkingMom.....I am sure everything will work out well. Try to stress less!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
