Anyone had or is having it done at Uof Penn in Philly?

Recommended Posts

I am going through the process now at UofPenn in Philly with Dr. Noel Williams.

Was wondering if anyone has gone through the Uof Penn for the Lapband or if anyone is going to. I need some support.

Thank you,

ELizabeth:tongue2:

Me! I was at the November information session. I am getting the lap band done with Dr. Williams also.

Only thing left for me to do is the EKG, my 2nd half of the sleep study, nutritionist and weight management for 3 months because I have Keystone East POS.

I am looking for support too. Have you been to one of the group meetings yet?

I am trying this month to go.

I went to the meeting on Saturday too! I thought is was great. Gave me a lot of insight. I don't know - I may be leaning towards the gastric. I go to a lapband support group in my area this Wednesday.

I just want to make the right choice.

What did you think of the support group?

I figured out who you were. You sat next to my wife and baby girl. I thought it was great too. I am happy that I went. I will be at the Wednesday evening support meeting also.

The woman who had the surgery 7 years ago, was impressive. She gave alot of encouragement to me. Also, I just had someone I know try to steer me away from the Surgery. After the meeting, I feel it's the right thing to do.

I would like to get the gastric bypass. Though, I had a previous surgery on my intestine for an severe infection. Dr. Williams suggested going with the Lap-Band.

You have a beautiful baby! THat is so wonderful that your wife came and supported you. I am hopeful that my husband will do the same soon.

It is such a tough decision isn't it? I thought Philys, the woman who had it 7 years ago was so encouraging also. I wish I could just loose the pounds on my own, but I do need a tool.

I hope everything works out for you and keep in touch. We can all use the support no matter what surgery we choose.

I had lapband done 2/17/09 with Dr. Williams at U of P. I was very happy with how well the front office has responded to all my concerns before and after. Irini(sp) was a godsend for insurance approval. I am happy I waited for Dr. Williams to do my surgery. Approval took longer -I was on schedule to be approved in 10 weeks somewhere else- but I had more confidence in his experience. It worked out for me.

Wed. night in the city for support is a terrible drive for me. Traffic nightmare.

I am looking for lap-band support closer to home. Maybe phoenixville or exton area?? Does anyone know of any???

PS- My first fill is on April Fools Day- can't wait.

I will definitely be up for a months Burbs meet. I would gladly try to organize somethign too

How are you doing? I saw you and your wife at the support group in February. I did not go to the one in March. I was so sure I was going to have the gatric until I had my psych done - Now I am going to have the lap band. I look at it totally differnetly now and am excited about it.

Have you had your surgery yet or do you have a date? Did your insurance okay everything for you?

I guess I may see you at the next support group meeting in April!

Let me know how you are doing and I hope all is well.

How are you doing since you got banded? I get banded by Dr. Williams on 5/12 and I go tomorrow to sign my consent papers. I have about 100 left to loose and am looking forward to a tool helping me on the way. Do you find it helpful thus far?

Did Dr. Williams put you on the liquid diet pre-op to reduce liver size?

Hope all is well and nice to hear another person who had it done at U-Penn on this site.

Elizabeth :)

There was no pre op liquid diet for me. Though, looking back I would have at least done it for a couple days before my surgery day.

I found out they had only one patient with a fatty liver that they did not proceed with the WLS.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
