Help! In need of food advice...I'm gaining :(

Recommended Posts

Hi! My name is Amy. I was banded on 11/25/08. Since my pre-op diet, I have lost 20 lbs. Unfortunately, once I started on "real" foods I must be getting carried away because I am gaining. I can't get my first fill for 2 weeks and I heard that I won't feel any difference until about 4 fills. I can't afford to gain weight until the fills kick in. Please help. What should I be eating daily?? Maybe I am not eating properly. I would hate to have to go back to Protein Shakes for months. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!!

Hi, the fill will help but until then go back to the basics. Eat your Protein first, then veggies and a little good carbs. The protein stops you from feeling hungry. Don't forget to chew chew chew even if you don't feel you have to because of no restriction. The chewing gives you time to feel full. Also remember not to drink while you eat or for 45 mins to an hour after. ( I personally don't follow this rule 100% because since my fill I do not get hungry for hours-but before my fill it was VERY helpful) Just remember the band is a great tool but we still have to do some of the work. Good luck and Happy new year!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
