My name is Shonia & I'm from Ky. I have been thinking about LapBand. So, thats why I'm here & I need all the help I can get about the LapBand. I'm looking for new banded friends or people just like me (Thinking about betting the Band) I have no clue on how to get started on the Lapband. Does that sound crazy? Ideas will be great.

God Bless,

Hello Shonia, Happy New Year! I was banded at the beginning of December and it was the best decision I have ever made! I would say before you do anything do LOTS and LOTS of research. This is a great place to start. Just start reading posts and start doing research. I think being informed is the best way to make any decision! Good luck, and have a great day!

Shonia, I suggest that if you have insurance call them first. They can tell you doctors in your area that they will pay for. There is alot of hoops to jump but it will be worth it in the end. I have had everything done just waiting on the doctors office to get with me about my date. Good Luck this site has really helped me to see other people that are out there and be able to talk with them. So, keep in touch.

Hi Shonia. I was banded on September 19th, and I am so happy that I had it done. I was self pay, so I just scheduled an initial consultation with the surgeon on August 13th. They did their tests on me (blood work and ekg), and scheduled my surgery for Sept. 12th. It was a bit delayed because I had it done in Houston and we were there when Hurricane Ike hit. I feel sooooo good. I have much more energy and my doctor just cut my blood pressure meds in half and said that she thinks I will be off of them in a short time - YIPEEEEEE!! LBT is a great place to learn about the band. I read a lot of posts and asked a lot of questions before my surgery, and I felt so ready when the time came. I wasn't even nervous when they wheeled me into the OR. I've made some really good friends here!! It is so nice to talk with people who know exactly what I've been through, what I am going through, and can help me to be prepared for what is to come. If I can be of any help to you, please feel free to send me a message. Good luck to you!!! Becky

Hi Shonia,

I am in the "discovery" process too. I researched doctors in my area (Sacramento, CA) online and called their office. I found out there is a seminar on Jan. 5th and I signed up to go. That is my first step. Good luck to you and I hope you keep me posted on your journey.

Hi Shonia-

I'm new here too! I was just banded on Dec. 22. It has been almost 2 weeks. My husband was banded 3 days before me! We were self-pay because we didn't have any co-morbities (good and bad depending on how you look at it!). Just in the process of healing right now. I can tell you that I'm glad I made the decision though. My husband is noticeably losing weight. I don't know if I am. We got rid of our scale! We made a pact to wait to weigh ourselves until our first post-op doctor's visit. Otherwise, we could get a bit obsessed. I know that my husband will lose a lot quicky than I will and I'm okay with that. I'll be happy to see him getting thinner and I'll eventually catch up! He's healing great! No residual pain or anything...stinker! I, on the otherhand, am struggling with the gas issue. I've been really mobile this week and not using straws or eating too fast, but my shoulder and back pain are really annoying! Anyway, other than that...I'm feeling good! I'll keep y'all posted with my future losses. Can't wait! Good luck in making your decision to get banded

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
