How low can you go in 09 weightloss challenge#1

Ok guys and gals, I need to vent some. For the past two months I've hovered inside the same darn 10 lb range. In August I got a fill of .25cc (didn't feel much difference) but kept on track. Went camping did great and went to 239 lbs. Went to weigh in at the doc's office and get another fill. 245 and .25cc of a fill (felt no difference and continued to be hungry between meals)

I gave it some time and I tell you this weekend all I had was food on my mind. I was HUNGRY. It seems pretty obvious that the last two fills weren't enough. My doc is trying to be conservative and take things slowly but I'm feeling a bit frustrated at this point in time.

I have 6.25 in a 10cc band. I've done great with my diet and my Water intake. I'm getting my supplements and my Protein in with no problem at all. I am making sure the food I eat between meals is very high in protein and healthy filling stuff.

I guess I'm just looking for some feedback and words of wisdom.

Thanks for letting me vent

Well, September 11th my 9 month bandaversary came and went I was 2# from my goal...but that's okay...when I set weight goals it helps me stay on track but my body decides when it lets lose of the weight...I'm eating right - exercising - and am getting healthier with each passing day...last weeks general practicioner's visit was great...infact she stood up and gave me a high five....blood pressure went from 148/90 to 124/76 and lose of weight from highest weight recorded was over 100#....so am I disappointed ...heck NO! I'm meeting my goal of why I started this to get my life back and be healthier. I'm still working on my month weight goal - we will see if my body believes it is realistic or not....it may want to take a little longer and that will be okay also.

To all those that are feeling frustrated...stay up, remember this is a lifestyle change and it's here for life...just follow the rules...be patient...it will pay off.

If you break a rule, eat something you shouldn't, or don't exercise that day....brush yourself off...and try again the next day maybe even do just a little more...we are human...just don't give up...it's too important!

Deb

Keep the faith in yourself.

You might need a real jolt to your band, Sue, since it sounds like you are deep in the "yellow" zone. I am in my sweet spot now, but have more than 10ccs in a 10cc band. I didn't have any restriction at all (even initally) until I was over 9ccs, and have had to have a few .5 cc adds since then as the weight has come off. My doc does a drinking test after adding to the band and if Fluid doesn't flow right down she backs off until it does. Ask you doctor if he'd be willing to let you try to swallow with a bigger add to the band and then work backwards until you feel like there is proper restriction. Good luck!

Ann, i went through this also in August. Did they check how much was in the band at your last fill? i went for my 5th fill and c/o of being hungry all the time. :( They removed what was in the band. it was supposed to be 6.5+cc but was really 4.2 cc. i was told it leaked out, which is normal. The doctor filled the band to 5.5 cc and i did feel a restriction, again.

Maybe you need to have the doctor check how much is in your band. i know it is rough and i beat myself up also.:) You are not alone.

Well I have an appointment next week and I will ask about checking how much is really in my band. I've been working hard on taming the hunger until then. I think I'm doing ok but the scale isn't moving. At least it isn't moving up

I love my band!

Hi All,

Its been a while since i posted, just updated the spreadsheet there. The weight has been very slow coming off but i am 40 pounds lighter than this time last year and i could easily have been 40 pounds heavier without the surgery. Every day is a food battle, I dont win every battle, but i am determined to win the war.

Hope you are all health and happy... where did 9 months go?

Any inspirational words out there?

Love & Wishes,

Care Bear

CareBear, Some #s are more difficult than others. Remember, you have lost 40# that won't come back!! and Every loss is a win !! My own Mantra is reminding myself how much I've lost and how much more I have tolose. And I am starting to remind myself the chocolate/sweet/ ice cream tastes good but do i really want to deal with the negative thoughts, :crying:depression, and cravings later- it helps.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
