vomiting after fill???

Recommended Posts

I just got a fill this afternoon. I drank a little bit of Water and was okay so I left. Ran some errands and about 2-3 hours ago I decided hot chocolate sounded good. Not the best choice, probably, but it's the no sugar added kind with only like 50 calories. Anyway, I maybe drank 1/8 of a cup and ended up throwing that up. Awhile later, I decided I would try hot tea instead. In all I've thrown up 7 times tonight. I'm not even sure what I'm thowing up anymore.. my saliva maybe. The doctor's office is now closed, of couse. Any suggestions for me?

Call your doctor's office - they should have an emergency answering service. If not, go to the ER of the hospital where you had the surgery - if it is not the closest then go to that one because you can become dehydrated and vomiting can cause your band to slip. Good luck.

If you haven't already gone, and you CAN keep your saliva down, quit trying to drink and just go to your doc tomorrow morning. If your vomiting had gone on for 24 hours or more I'd agree you would need an emergency dept but if you can QUIT vomiting, and you don't feel bad (woozy, etc) otherwise, you can just chill and wait to call your doc 1st thing tomorrow. Of course if you keep vomiting or start to feel other symptoms, or if you're just worried, go on to the ER. You'll probably have a long wait there, though!

Thanks for the replies! After vomiting 11 times and not having had anything more than 1/4 cup of liquids 5 hours prior, I decided to call the doctor's office... I got the answering service and the doctor called me back and ended up meeting me in the office at 11 PM. I felt so bad for getting him up that late, but I was so grateful. I would have just gone to the emergency room if he said to. He ended up taking out 1 cc of the 1.5 he put in hours earlier. My jaw hurts, but at least I was able to keep some hot tea and some Protein Shake down so far this morning.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
