surgery in two days and scared

Recommended Posts

This is my first posting of any kind. I live in Las Vegas and Dr. Francis Teng is going to perform a lap-band surgery on me in two days. I know he is a great surgeon. My insurance will not cover bariatric surgery and I am paying for it myself. This is alot of money for me and I am scared that I won't be able to make all of the changes neccessary in my life for a successful outcome. I'm sure almost everyone feels this way at this stage and I'm telling myself that I will do it because I have to. Feedback please:confused:

I was banded in May of this year. I was scared too but it was not as hard as I thought it would be. You just have to set your mind that you are doing this for you and that you will succeed!!

It's only normal to be nervous. You are looking at a BIG change in your lifestyle. I remember being in the same place as you just 3 months ago. Even the morning of surgery I was thinking, "what am I doing?" but it's all worth it. Just remember what it is that started you on this journey and what it is that you hope to gain from it. Good luck. Keep us updated on your progress. Simone

It is natural to be nervous and scared of a life changing procedure. Let's face it, we have failed at so many other types of weight loss methods, we question whether this procedure will really make the difference.

Plus, having any type of surgery is serious and paying for it out of your own pocket really leaves you to question if this is the right choice for you. Speaking for myself, I have no regrets. Yes, I had the same concerns as you, but really I am satisfied with my resluts thus far.

I believe you will have no regrets either. Best wishes with your journey.

Hi Tquad64,

I know how you feel. I'm getting banded in 2 days also, the 31st? Sometimes I wonder "what I'm going to be doing to myself!"

Answer: Making my life easier!

I'm here with you, you've come this far.

Keep in touch

Hey Darling...

I am a college kid and I just had lap band about 2 weeks ago. I was scared to death too. In fact I started crying when the took me back. haha-

But don't be scared, I am not going to lie though. Personally I was in a lot of pain after the surgery and really needed help from the people around me. But about five days later I felt really good. So the surgery is worth it, no questions asked.

As far as making changes--that is important. What you have to realize is this isn't another diet. This is a long term life style change. You need to exercise and learn how to eat. Exercising is a lot more fun though when youare thinner.

Just keep in mind when you are done losing your weight they do loosen the band and you can eat normally. So you can potentially eat anything you want again someday, but next time it will be about self control. However, if you start gaining weight, because you revert back to old habbits, then they will tighten it again.

The most important part of this journey is having a strong support system. I suggest that you attend support group meetings in your area, talk to you family and friends about what you're going through, and also talk to people on this webiste!!!

You'll feel wonderful when its said and done! You will look and feel like the happy person we all have hidden under all our fat! :frown:

So keep it up and good luck girl--you'll do great!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
