To Be Banded In March of 2009

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I'm new here! I will be banded in March of 2009. I'm a little nervous, scared and excited all rolled into one. I've never had ANY kind of surgery so I don't know really what to expect. I've been reading the pro's and con's and I've also watched the surgery on YouTube.

Any advice? My sister was banded 2 weeks ago.

Thanks!:)

I was just banded on Nov 6th, and I'm already loving my results! I've lost 32 pounds and I feel great!

The worst part of the surgery for me was how nauseated I was after surgery. I've had a couple other minor surgeries and I'd never gotten sick with them, so I didn't anticipate that. I'm guessing it was a combonation of different meds they used for a longer surgery (?) and just the fact that it was a 2 hour surgery compared to my other surgeries that weren't over 45 mins long. I'm not sure, but that part was for sure the worst. They tried 3 different meds over about a 10 hour period, finally the 3rd one worked. Pain wasn't bad, they gave me an interthecal (SP?) block. ( I think that's what it's called) That pretty much covered my pain for 24 hours, then I went to a liquid pain med that I drank.

You said your sister was just banded 2 wks ago? How's she doing?

I LOVE my band. I have almost no restriction and yet I lost 5 pounds from Dec 18 through today! I had our traditional christmas dinner (chicken and dumplings) I had our traditional christmas Breakfast (fruit turnovers) I have had candy and Cookies. We have eaten out 5 times (Mexican 4 of those) and I LOST 5 pounds. I didn't think I had, but my husband said I was eating a lot less. I guess he was right. Now isn't that just a wonderful thing? I've eaten what I wanted of this holiday abundance and lost 5 pounds. I LOVE my band!

If I can answer any questions about the surgery etc I would be glad to. I've been through it twice and my DH is an RN, so am glad to share and help if I can! :)

Hi,

I was originally scheduled to be banded on 12/23 and then found out my insurance had a 6 month clause in it so I had to postpone the surgery until April. Like you I am nervous and excited. My doctor told me the secret to success is to begin working out lightly now, no heavy weights but rather walking daily, swimming things that prepare your body for being more active. It is my understanding that if we prepare our bodies in advance of the surgery, it helps the weight come off even faster.

Best of luck to you!

E

Thanks for all of your responses! My sister is two weeks post-banding and she is doing great. She had a lot of shoulder pain and she has some occasional deep pain where her port is located. Other than that, she is healing well and is down 24 pounds since her liquid diet.< /span>

Thanks,

DM :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
