Hi there, my name is Carrie! I am being banded on Aug 5th! I live in Colorado. My Dr. is James Smith. I was not aware I was supposed to start here, so some of you have already read some of my reponses to the great threads that you all have started. I am really glad I found this web sit. I have to tell you all I am very nervous, scared, excited. I think I read on someones reply it is like standing in line for a roller coaster for the first time, all those feelings at the same time. I am really surprised how each doctor is different on there policies for you to follow! I have learned that it is trial and error really, just what ever works for you. Well to be honest here I am a big wienie, I do not like pain but someone also said something that has stuck in my heart "NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS BEING THIN FEELS"! You all know exactly what to say to make a person feel at ease. Well I am 32 yrs old have 3 children 12/5/3 have been married for 13 years and have been overweight almost all of my married life. I am very ready to be skinny. I work full time in a dental office. Look forward to getting to know all of you great people in band land. Have a great night and talk to you soon!!

Carrie

Welcome to LBT!!! It's the best, huh? I remember when I first found it, I couldn't stop getting back on, and finally I started posting...something? a question I'll bet but here was an entire group of people dealing with the same physical and emotional issues I am regarding my weight! And what a diverse group, too! I have been floored, then hooked on LBT. Everyone here is just as nice as you think. I love the hope. I was so down when I started searching the computer about WLS. Now I'm banded and all these nice folks walked me through it. I'm headed in the right direction and couldn't do it without LBT.

So, welcome Carrie! All of your apprehensions about the surgery are normal. Keep reading and learning. Happy band day on the 5th!!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
