Aetna - missing 2007 proof of weight

Recommended Posts

Hi. I have Aetna and am thrilled because my company added bariatric surgery coverage to our plan effective 1/1/09. I have already completed 6 months of a doctor supervised diet just in case the policy would be changed, and am now in the process of gathering my documentation to submit. I have a problem however which is that I have no proof of my weight in 2007. I was out of the country on a work exchange program for much of the year and did not visit any doctor who weighed me. I have proof of my weight going back to 2004 but am missing 2007. I do have a weight watchers booklet showing my weight from the end of 2007 but that is it, and I know that doesn't count for insurance purposes. Has anyone gotten approved with a gap like this? Does anyone have tips for me about how to try and get approved with this hole in documentation???

Thanks!!!

I know of someone who was missing a year of proof. She submitted a dated photo of herself during that year that showed that she was not skinny. They accepted it and she got approved.

I had UHC and and was missing some things but just put in the letter that we could not obtain the stuff from the doctors because they no longer had my files since it was more than 7 years since I had seen them. We did not have any problems with gettting approved. Everyone is differant. I would just explain it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
