Banding on Dec 31st and the pre-op diet is killing me!

Recommended Posts

My surgery is scheduled for Dec 31. Yikes! I am having a hard time with the liquid diet. Hungry, dizzy, cravings, etc. I don't know how I am going to make it through Christmas with the family. Anybody less than 2 weeks away?

Jackie:rolleyes:

Heya Jackie,

Sounds like to me your missing Protein with your liquid diet. Let me ask you are you having full liquids or Clear Liquids?

With full liquids I would make sure to get yourself some Atkins shakes or something similar to have as those will help a lot in the Protein area and help you feel full.

For the Clear Liquids I would look at the Special K2O protein waters but just watch them closely since they do have some carbs to them.

Best of luck on both the diet and the surgery!

I can drink the Adkins shakes or Optifast. I can't have Boost/Ensure or anything with high carbs.

I cannot speak for the Optifast as I never tried them but the Atkins shakes I would sware by. The reformulated the taste on them not to long ago and are rather good. While I was on my liquid phases and my pre-op diets I really enjoyed having them daily. Heck I almost miss having them now but of course now that I am in mushies docs orders are no liquid calories so bye bye shakes.

I am being banded on the 30th and I feel your pain. I am trying to have a positive attitude, but with all the food floating around during the holidays it is extremely difficult. I am not really hungry, but i feel like pushing someone down and grabbing the food away. I have not told people that I am being banded, how are you handling that?

Hello Everyone,

I had my surgery on 12/16. I can totally realate because I was still on the liquid/soup phase on Christmas. With that being said, I want to say Hang in there. It really does get easier by week two. I had to do the pre-op diet for two weeks and I thought I was going to loose my mind the first week. With all the christmas parties at work, and potlucks, and dessert trays, It was so hard stirring up my little shake. My girlfriend had the surgery a month before me and she would say, it will get better the second week and I couldn't bring myself to believe her. At one point I wanted to give up! it had got that bad! not only was I hungry and frustrated but my family could not stand to be around me cause my mood was so evil. They said I was horrible to be around because I was so snappy and mean. I found myself being easily irritated by coworkers as well. But by week two I had totally adjusted. I didn't think about food, I was content with my shakes and my mood evened out. Hang in there it REALLY DOES GET EASIER! Just think your body is going thru an enormous change physically and mentally. You are ridding all of that crap in your system, mentally you are having to cope, harmones don't know what is going on with your body so they are out of wack, but it will all balance out for the better.

STAY STRONG it is worth it in the end even though right now you are questioning what the heck are you getting into!

I am down 23lbs

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
