Weird thing during fill today -- has this happened to anyone?

Recommended Posts

I went in for my second fill today. I had my first one (1.7 ccs in a 5 cc band) a week ago, and it didn't get me to good restriction -- it made a little tiny difference, but not a lot.

So, I went in today & my doctor looked to see how much was in my band -- and she said that I only had .7 in it. I asked if that means I have a leak, and she said that I shouldn't worry at this point, and that it could mean that the band had low pressure (?) after surgery and that the extra 1 cc was left in the tube. Has anyone heard of this?

We're going to monitor how the band is doing, but this makes me nervous. It's weird that a bunch of saline is missing. I just got banded less than 2 months ago. If I have a leak already and have to go back under the knife to get it fixed, I am going to be UPSET!!

Anyway, hopefully my Dr. is right about the reason for the difference. Will keep my fingers crossed. I can feel a difference on the restriction now (I have 2 ccs in my band -- possibly plus the extra cc that doesn't want to come out of the tube) and that seems to be making a difference.

Yes, this is exactly what happened to me and it ended up that I did NOT have a leak! For the first fill the dr. put in 1.7 cc's. Then a month later I went back and she said 'Hmmm, looks like there is only 0.5cc's in there now.' I believe she filled me up to about 2.5. Went back last week to have her check and she said that I was still filled.

I also have a friend that this same thing happened to. Try not to worry about something until you have something to worry about! I hope everything works out good for you too.

I had the same thing happen to me too during my last fill at the hospital's fill clinic (less Fluid pulled then there should have been). I went in today, and the doctor pulled the fluid out to check it from the last fill. He got almost 100% of the fluid out that I was supposed to have. He said sometimes they get air. I was glad to see that the fluid pulled was very close to the amount I had at the previous appointment.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
