Did anyone get RASHES post op?

Recommended Posts

I am about five days post op. The first day I developed just a little itchy redness that wasn't that bothersome. I took off the white strips the first day, even though I shouldn't have, and ended up replacing them with band-aids, which have now caused horrendous itchy rashes around my incisions sites in the actual shape of the band-aid. I would assume this is just because of the band-aid itself, but I also have little rashes on my tummy that AREN'T in the shape of a band-aid.

Also, every little skin irritation I've ever had is all coming back. Sometimes in the past my left eyelid will get an itchy rash, and I will get a mild rash on my neck. I am also allergic to things like tomatoes, which make my toungue break out in spots. My toungue has had those spots for a few days even though I haven't eaten anything....

Why is my skin SO sensitive? I have actually REALLY tough skin, and it's not considered "sensitive" by normal standards. What's wrong with me??

It sounds like you might be having an allergic reaction to something. I would suggest calling your doctor but maybe taking some Benedryl will help if it is an allergy. Good luck.

I am allergic to band aid adhesive, and sure enough was REALLY allergic to the steri strips. I had to put benadryl creme on the rashes around each incision. It itched like mad, but got better when I started doing that! Good luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
