Dilemma.....HELP!!

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone

I will be having my consultation on December 16th at SWLC in Mississauga.I am very excited for my new life and of course very scared, almost like I am loosing my best friend"FOOD"!!

My problem is,I am leaving for vacation to Vegas in January 11th then Febuary 23rd I have business in Jamaica for one week.I would love to have this done before I go to Jamaica but I am so SCARED I might have complications in Jamaica!I am also scared of the weight I could gain on these trips.I am lost on what I should do??Should I be waiting till I get back from both trips or go for it now!!

Also does anyone have some input on SWLC??

Thanks for any advice you might have to offer!

Cathy

This is a personal decision.

Personally I would wait. I would want to do it when I had time to truly focus on healing and eating right and of course I would want to be close to my own doctors in case there are any post-surgery complications. I needed to develop a routine and I don't think that I could have done that while traveling.

I think it depends partially on when you are being banded.

If you are traveling within the first few weeks after being banded . . . it might be better to wait a little longer.

After 4 weeks or so you should be able to eat solid foods and will not have much restriction so it should not be too difficult to find appropriate foods. Definitely do not get a fill less than a week before you go anywhere just in case it gets too tight.

The other thing to consider is that if you are banded, you probably will not be gaining over your trips if you are careful and follow the rules. Do you really want to wait a few more months before being banded? The choice is very personal.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
