Not eating enough, I Know!

Recommended Posts

I have a problem, I was banded on 11/26/08 and I still have almost the same eating habits. I Don't eat or drink much all during the day, then BAM at night I want to eat more. But since I've been banded I can't eat alot because I get full fast. When I eat earlier It is so uncomfortable for me that it turns me off, like the gas and the chest indigestion feeling. I have probably most too much in too little time. Think I am headed for the malnutrion stage. I definately don't get enough Protein in. Whats a lady to do if eating hurts and I have not even had a first fill yet. LOST 21 lbs in 10 days!!!!

You've been banded less than two weeks. Most doctors would still have you on a liquid or mushy diet. This is a time for healing, for letting the band settle into it's place around your stomach and for the stitches placed around it to heal. Eating solid foods would not be the ideal thing for your band right now. I'd say you are uncomfortable when you eat because you really shouldn't be eating much yet. What are your surgeon's post-op diet requirements?

As far as eating habits go, that is something that you are going to have to work on yourself. Have you always been one to eat very little during the day, then go wild at night? Or is it just a result of the discomfort you get when eating now?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
