Why do I BURP soooo much?

Recommended Posts

When I drink or eat anything I burp these little burps over and over and over. I don't burp at all unless I eat or drink. I am driving everyone nuts, but I can't help it. Why is this happening?

My situation is exactly like yours. I burp repeatedly after eating or drinking anything. I have meetings at work at lunch time and have to be very careful to control myself!

It is most likley because you are swallowing more air now than you were prior to being banded. Pay special attention when you chew and swallow - you will find its hard not to swallow air when you are swallowing such tiny amounts of food. That might be the issue.

Sometimes after I eat I get huge, loud hickups. It's so embarrasing at work, but they're getting used to it.

HI,

My hiccups are really loud and uncontrollable at times too, it is really embarrassing at work. I am a fleet allocator so I am constantly talking to the truck drivers over a UHF, it's so embarrassing when you're trying to give a job out, but can't stop the hiccups!

I never was one to burp or let out a "tweek" (fart) before I had this surgery. I even had a stomach doctor tell me that I needed to burp and "tweek" but I told him that I just can't. I don't even know how to burp! Now, that doctor would be so proud of me! LOL! Does anyone but me have soooo much gas? Thank goodness they aren't the stinky ones! LOL!

I am with all of you as well. Always when I eat or drink I must belch. I also sometimes get violent hiccupburps--if thats even possible. They are like inhaling air & than hiccuping a burp & it happens repeatedily & very fast & for a decent period of time. those are the worst. I just try & relax & hope they pass quickly.

I sometimes get little burps WHILE eating. Like, I'll feel some food kind of "catch" and I'll burp and then it goes down fine. I think burps are just a part of the band.

I also fart WAY more than I ever have. It's bizarre. But just a fact of life with the band. GasX does help some if I take it constantly.

Well I was quite gassy before surgery....but Sweet Jesus, look out! I burp constantly after I eat, and the other....well, lets just say it aint pretty. Thank goodness I am single.

I never had the gas pains after surgery, but i woke up from anesthesia and the first think i did was burp. The nurse (male) told me I burp like a man, I roamed the halls in recovery burping as much as I could... it was such a help AND quite amusing to the staff, I might add! :(

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
