Dr Martinez often assists Dr Ortiz, but has been doing surgeries on his own for some time. He assisted on my surgery, my husband's, and my daughter's. From all reports I have heard as well as my own experience, he is capable and caring. I have not needed any significant post op care, but have heard his patients say that he is very good about getting back to you if you call him or need to see him post op.

If you want information on the OCC (which is a clinic, not a hospital) search under Dr Ortiz on this forum as it is his clinic. My experiences there have been great.

I am glad to know that you and your family have had a good

experince there. My son-in law is going to have his surgery done there in the next couple of weeks and he is very nervous about having this surgery done in Mexico. But with the price of the surgery package he has no option, It is just

too expensive here in Ohio and his insurance won't cover it .

His Dr told him to lose the weight or his high blood pressure is

going to kill him and he wants to see his young children grow up and he see the success I have had with my band. Did you have to stay overnight at the clinic? Did you have a pre-op

diet? Anything you can share about your surgery at the OCC would be appricated.

I have not had a lot of post-op experiences, but Dr. Martinez assisted on my surgery and he is EXTREMELY capable. You are in good hands. my friend Julie goes back to the OCC for her fills and LOVES Dr. Martinez...

You do stay overnight in the clinic. It is VERY nice. Extremely clean and up to date.

I had a preop diet. For 2 weeks I did a slimfast shake for Breakfast and lunch and lean cuisine for dinner.

Make sure your son-in-law lines up his aftercare BEFORE his surgery. I am assuming he is not planning to fly to the OCC for fills. Dr. Ortiz recommended local fill docs and my doc has been great. Good luck to him. He is in great hands...

Like Katy said, yes, you do stay overnight. I did a pre op Atkins diet for several weeks and lost about 19 lb on it. Because I had a long time to do the preop diet, I didn't have to do liquids. OCC's requirement is that you lose 5% of your weight preop to make the surgery go easier by giving the doctors some extra room to work around your stomach by reducing internal abdominal fat. Be sure he understands how important the post op diet is to allow full healing of his stomach and reduce later complications like band slippage.

The clinic is modern and comfortable, the hotel is fun, and the entire experience is a memorable and pleasant one. To help put your son-in-law at ease, tell him my husband and I have insurance that covers the surgery and could have had it done in the US, but when we saw how great my daughter's experience at OCC was, we went there for our own surgery a year after hers. (Our insurance reimbursed us for surgery in Tijuana, by the way.)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
