@Vickie - I'm actually having my sister pick up some gas-ex strips for us both (she just can't go, and I"m all bloated) I figure I'll give it a try, and see if it helps. Crass as it sounds, I'd rather fart the last bits of gas away then hiccough or burp it - those hurt!

Wendy,

I AM SO WITH YOU!! I got banded on 12/1 as well, and I have never wanted to pass gas more in my life! I am doing the walking thing, but there is still just enough left to bother the heck out of me!

ok, maybe I'm just sensitive, but did anyone else wind up getting 'the squirts' after using the gas ex? It happened to me twice. On one hand, its nice to get the gas out, but on the other...I took one right before my first trip out of the house post surgery, to Michael's (look, I gotta craft!) and I had to shuffle to the bathroom as soon as I got there!

The Kellogs powder (Special K Brand) lemonade has 30 calories. That's well above what my Dr. recommends for a drink. The 5g of Protein is not enough to make up for the calories IMHO.

I asked the nutritionist about the drink on thursday and what she said is the do not recommend any drinks that re above 20 calories for 8 oz. The kellogg drink is 30 calories but for 16 oz so 15 cal per 8 oz.

Banded on 12/2..........Day 4 and the gurgling is still very much here!! I'm not really gassy but I'm very hungry. And I still haven't had a firm BM.

What are your portion sizes?

My doc recommended a variation of the liquid diet. I can have runny oatmeal, runny grits, yogurt and strained Soups. I believe I can go to apple sauce textured foods after the 17th.

I am drinking the Isopure and I found liquid Vitamins.

Any advice on how to subside this hunger without over eating?

I was banded 12/2/08 as well. Have walked a lot, so my gas pains have been minimal. I am hungry though and having trouble with Migraine like headaches due to not being able to have Diet Coke or Diet Dr. Pepper. How do you other caffeine addicts handle this?

I had the same problem with headaches-In fact when I tried to put my head down to rest that was when it hurt worst. I've decided that the vasodilator properties of the pain meds (causes the vessels in your head to open up) was actually making the HA worse and switched to regular liquid tylenol from the Rx Lortab. Although my incision is a little more uncomfortable, that is nothing compared to how the pain in my head was. I'd still love a coke to chase it entirely but dropping the Narcs has helped me:thumbup:

Day 4 and I've been up all day. Was sore as the day started but now I feel more swollen (but not tight) and feel extremely tired and my port site is hurting. Any body else experience this?

Hi there! I was banded on the 2nd also... What a great day! Anyway, my nutritioist said that caffeinated liquids do not count toward my daily ozs of liquids, soo, I have about 4oz of coffee with skim milk in the am and I'm good to go. Hope this helps! PS...I can't believe how great I feel. Stilll have some minor discomfort, espically by my port but, I feel great (must be the am coffee!)

Thanks for responding. I am kind of confused about the diets and what's allowed at this point. Seems like everybody has been told conflicting things. I was told not to drink coffee; yet, here you are enjoying a small cup in the mornings. That would have been so nice. I was also told Clear Liquids for 1 week; and, others who had surgery on the 2nd like me have already been advanced to soft foods. Anybody got the "skinny" on what is the best diet. I know I'm not getting much Protein in broth. I've lost 8 pounds since 12/2, so that's great. I just want to do this right. There's too much at stake!

Anne

Hi Anne!

I'm really fortunate that my physician provides a handbook which details week-by-week what I'm allowed to eat and drink during recovery...even a shopping list for the first few weeks!! The nutritionist is also available through email and that's probably going to be helpful too!

My program doesn't allow coffee for six months.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
