I guess I have been clueless for a long time, I thought the HR/Benefit people who deal with the insurance benefits can see all of our medical claims. Is this not so?

Well that depends. If your employer admininsters the plan and pays the medical costs directly to the doctor/hospital, then yes they would see who had what prcoedure. But again, the information is protected by HIPPA and if anyone were to disclose your private medical information there could be serious repercussions.

Some government agencies/municipailities administer their health plans and pay the medical expenses directly to the doctors/hospital in order to save money.

Yet, there are other organizations/businesses that just pay a plan administrator to oversee the health insurance. In this situation, the business/organization would not know who had what type of medical procedure done.

It is complicated, but your HR department can explain it to you more thoroughly. :cursing:

I would tell them the truth, best plan....

Actually you are not required to tell your employer your medical condition. All you need to state is that your under a doctor's care and that you will need time off work.

You will of course need to provide a note from your doctor stating that you are being treated for a medical condition and the amount of time you will be off work.

Take advantage of HIPPA and FMLA.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
